백윤조의 작업은 과감한 색채와 심플함 그리고 율동감이 특징적이다. 작가 작업의 출발점은 바로 걷는 행위인데 작품 속 걷고 있는 사람들 작고 소소한 존재들이 함께한다. 고양이나 개를 연상시키는 생명체 혹 어린 시절 소중했던 인형을 누군가 가져가는 장면들을 통해 우리가 살면서 간과하기 쉬운 ‘작은 것’들에 대한 ‘따뜻함’과 ‘배려’ 그리고 시간이 지남에 따라 잃어버리기 쉬운 ‘순수성’을 역설적으로 환기시킨다. 동덕여대 회화과 석사 졸업 후 작가는 연이은 개인전과 국내외 아트페어를 통해 활발한 전시를 이어오며 국내 미술계에서 뜨거운 주목을 받고 있다.
Paek Yunzo’s works are characterized by bold colors, simplicity and a sense of rhythm. The starting point of the artist's works is the act of walking, and in the works, walking people and small and trivial creatures are together. Through scenes of someone carries a creature reminiscent of a cat, a dog or a doll cherished in childhood, the 'warmth' and 'consideration' for the 'little things' that we tend to overlook in our lives and the 'things that are easily lost over time' are depicted. Paradoxically, she reminds us of "purity". After graduating with a master's degree in painting from Dongduk Women's College, the artist has actively participated in a number of solo exhibitions as well as national and international art fairs, attracting much attention in the Korean art scene.

작업은 담백, 단순하다. 무언가 이것저것 채워 넣으려 하지 않는다. 본격적인 작업은 걷는 것으로부터 시작되었다. 작업은 걸으면서 주는 안정감과 잡생각들을 비워내는 행위와 닮았다. 대부분 걷는 형상을 그린다. 심심할 수도 있는 부분을 과하지 않는 코미디로 간을 맞춘다. 살짝 여운을 남기는 아담한 코미디가 됐으면 한다. 상상하면서 작업했던 부분이 제목을 통해 보여지기도 한다. 한 인물 혹은 다수가 걷는 형상을 그려내고, 어디를 향해 가고 이유가 설명되지 않는다. 불친절할 수 있지만 표현의 설명은 오히려 상상에 방해될까 생략한다.
작업의 형태는 무언가 보고 그리지 않는다. 머릿속에서 잡힌 즉흥적인 것을 드로잉 한다. 단순한 시작이 조심스럽고 섬세한 과정으로 마무리된다. 즉흥적 형태의 드로잉으로 시작과 그 안에 변수들과 밸런스를 맞추기 위해 얇은 레이어드로 진행된다. 부분적으로는 과감해진다. 안정적인 구도, 단순한 형상, 곧게 뻗은 선들, 비율이 큰 단색 면의 배경이 눈에 띈다.
단색 면 안의 형상은 간혹 외로워 보이기도 한다. 인물, 그와 관련된 무언가, 배경 이외에 것은 채워 넣으려 하지 않는다. 인물과 배경의 경계선, 표현의 경계는 홀로 작업하며 만들어지는 형태이기에 그런 부분들이 작품에 반영되는 것 같다. 작업을 하면서 산만하고 시끄러웠던 나를 조금씩 비워내게 된다. 선택과 집중을 하고 조금씩 앞으로 전진한다.

The work is plain and simple. Do not try to fill it with anything. The real work begins with walking. The work resembles the feeling of stability that comes with walking, driving away distracting thoughts. I draw most people as walking figures. The parts that could be boring are spiced up with a certain unexaggerated comedy. I hope it will be a comedy that leaves a slight aftertaste. What I was working on while imagining the picture is sometimes hinted at by the title. It shows people walking without explaining where or why they are going. It may be rude, but the explanation is left out for fear of disturbing the fantasy.
The work is not about looking at something and then drawing it. I draw something that spontaneously comes to mind. A simple beginning ends with a careful and delicate process. It starts with a spontaneous drawing in thin layers to balance the variables. In a way, it becomes bold. The stable composition, the simple form, the straight lines, and the large monochromatic background stand out.
The shapes within the monochromic surface sometimes seem lonely. There is no attempt to fill in anything other than the figure, something related to it, or the background. The boundaries between the figures and the background, as well as the boundaries of expression, are created by walking alone, so that these aspects seem to be reflected in the work. As I work, I gradually stop being distracted and making noise. I make decisions, concentrate, and move forward step by step.

‘일상 속의 특별함’
사사로운 경험과 시선에서 무의식적으로 만들어진 따뜻하고 유쾌한 것들이 있습니다. 그것들을 종이에 드로잉 하는 것으로 시작해서, 의식과 무의식에서 나온 여러 드로잉을 한 화면 안에 균형을 잡아가며 채우는 방식으로 이어갑니다. 때로는 반복적이고 때로는 즉흥적인 이미지들이 혼재된 작업입니다. 이것이 캔버스의 화면으로 옮겨져 하나의 커다란 추상 작업이 됩니다. 그게 저의 두들(Doodle) 시리즈입니다.
걷는 형상(Walk Series)작업은 두들에서 파생되었습니다. 표출된 여러 심상들 중에 저에게 강한 여운을 남긴 어떤 무언가는 하나의 형상으로 이루어진 작업의 모티브가 되었습니다. 저에게 ‘걷다’의 의미는 개인적으로 큰 힘을 준 행위이자 신념의 메시지 입니다.
좋은 인상과 단순하지만 힘이 있는 메시지는 더 많은 사람들에게 공감을 사고 교감 할 수 있다고 생각합니다. 그러한 그림으로 감각적인 소통이 된다면 보통의 모습일지라도 보다 특별하게 남을 것이므로, 거기에 긍정적인 기운을 줄 수 있는 유쾌한 요소들이 함께 라면 더 이상 우리의 일상은 결코 평범하지 않습니다.

"The special in the ordinary"
There are warm and pleasant things that arise unconsciously from personal experiences and glances. I start by drawing them on paper, and then fill them in a balance on a canvas with a bunch of drawings from the conscious and the unconscious. It's a mixture of images that are sometimes repetitive and sometimes spontaneous. The whole is then transferred to the canvas and becomes a large abstract work. This is my doodle series.
The walk series grew out of the doodle series. Some of the images that left a strong impression on me became the subject of a single painting. For me, 'walking' is a personally powerful act and a message of faith.
I believe that a good impression and a simple but powerful message can attract and appeal to more people. If we can communicate meaningfully with such images, even the normal appearance becomes special, so our daily life is never normal when there are pleasant elements that can convey positive energy.
