도쿄를 베이스로 작업 활동을 펼치고 있는 타츠히토 호리코시 Tatsuhito horikoshi는 소년과 소녀의 인물화를 다룬다. 청춘의 낙천적인 감성, 순수성 동시에 잔인함과 고정되지 않는 성 정체성을 특유의 섬세한 색채감으로 표현한다. 2020년 홍콩 개인전, 2022년 파리 개인전을 치르며 전 세계에서 활발한 작품활동을 이어오고 있는 작가는 2023년 Kiaf Seoul에서 갤러리조은을 통해 전 작품 솔드아웃 되며 국내 미술계에 성공적인 데뷔를 치렀다. 일본 Mr. I 컬렉션, 스위스 장 피고치 컬렉션(Pigozzi Collection)에 작품이 소장되어 있다.

Tatsuhito Horikoshi, who works in Tokyo, portrays boys and girls. The optimistic sensitivity and innocence of youth, but also the cruelty and undefined sexual identity are expressed through a unique, delicate artistic language and colors. The artist, who is active worldwide with solo exhibitions in Hong Kong (2020) and Paris (2022), successfully debuted on the Korean art scene with Gallery Joeun in Kiaf Seoul (2023). His works are collected in the Mr. I n Collection in Japan and the Pigozzi Collection in Switzerland.

시시각각 변하는 관심사가 내 작품의 주제가 되는데, 내가 그리는 이야기 속 주인공은 바로 인간이다.

작품 속 영감의 원천은 대중문화에서 비롯된다. 영화와 음악, 시티 라이프 속 현대인의 외로움과 멘탈, 개개인의 삶의 이야기와 성 정체성 그리 식물 등. 나는 이런 주제들에서 발견한 소소한 관찰과 통찰력을 바탕으로 현실과 판타지가 병치된 세계관을 펼쳐낸다. 내 눈을 통해 본 세상과 현대 사회의 분위기가 나 자신과의 반복적인 대화를 통해 캔버스 위 이미지로 투사된다.

작품 속 인물의 리얼리즘을 줄이고 변형하는 이유는 보는 이로 하여금 작품 속 인물과 더 쉽게 공감할 수 있도록 하는데 있다. 얼굴을 뒤덮는 선형적 요소들과 모티브들은 보는 이들에게 만화와 애니메이션을 연상시킨다. 나는 어린 시절부터 만화와 애니메이션에 둘러싸여 있었다. 나에게 향수를 불러 일으키는 장치로서, 만화와 애니메이션은 어린아이와 같은 호기심, 장난기, 모험심, 꿈의 중요성을 상기시켜 준다. 또한 고통스러운 현실과 어려움에 맞서는 수단으로 작용하기도 한다.

나의 초상화는 결국 순수했던 나 자신에 대한 질문이기도 하다.

Using the subject of my interest, which changes from time to time, as a starting point, I paint stories in which human beings are the main characters.

The wellspring of my inspiration derives from pop culture such as movies and music, urban life, the loneliness and mental health of people in the modern age, individual histories and sexualities, plants, among others. I collect and combine tiny discoveries and insights from these sources to create worldviews that are juxtapositions of reality and fantasy on the canvas. The world and the atmosphere of contemporary society through my eyes are projected in the images that emerge as a result of my repeated dialogue with my inner self.

By deforming the human figure and dialing back on realism, I aim to make it easier for viewers to connect with the characters on the canvas. The linear elements and motifs, full of character, which hide the faces, should remind the viewer of manga and anime. I have been surrounded by manga and anime since my childhood, and they serve as devices to awaken my nostalgia. They remind me of the importance of childlike curiosity, playfulness, adventurousness, and dreams; they also act as a means of countering painful realities and difficulties.
