삶이 곧 작업의 근간인 이재현은 유년 시절 기억부터 어른이 된 오늘날까지 작가의 삶에 들어온 의미 있는 사람들과 사물들을 특유의 조형 언어로 풀어낸다. 물감을 두텁게 바르는 임파스토(Impasto) 기법으로 제작된 그의 회화 속 투박한 질감, 거친 선, 자유로운 색깔은 어린 시절 달동네부터 켜켜이 쌓아온 작가의 ‘삶의 결’의 무의식적 표현이다. 고독하고 쓸쓸한 존재인 작가의 시점으로 탄생된 미의식이 모든 작업과정과 결과에 표출된다. 2023년 파리 팝업 개인전, 갤러리조은 개인전 그리고 화이트스톤 서울 개관전을 치르며 성공적 행보를 이어 나가고 있다.
Lee Jae-Hyun, whose life reflects the basis of his work, translates human beings and objects that have entered the artist's life since his childhood memories until the present moment as an adult with his unique artistic language. The rough texture, the coarse lines and the intuitive colors in his paintings are created by the impasto technique (thick paint application) which comes from his unconscious expression that he built up by observing his childhood ‘Daldongne’ (crowded town on the hills in Korea). The perspective from solitary state and loneliness of the artist is expressed and represented fully into his process and result of the artworks. He continues his career by exhibiting in Paris(2023), at Gallery Joeun, Seoul(2023), and Whitestone, Seoul(2023).

작업하기에 앞서 과거의 회상이 내 생각을 채우면 그림을 그리기 시작합니다.
한 켠에 아려올 추억도 저마다 함께 떠오르는 모습도 그려보지만, 내가 겁이 많아서인지 과거를 부정해서인지 바로 작업하기가 힘들어, 그럴 때는 나를 많이 보챕니다.
뭐가 그리 궁금했는지, 가본적도 없고 알 수 없는 공간을 그려 나갈 때면 더욱 또렷해지는 기억의 결과물을 만납니다.

Before I set to work, I begin to draw when my thoughts are filled with flashbacks to the past.
I try to draw some nostalgic memories, but I find it hard to work immediately, perhaps it’s because I'm afraid or in denial about the past. When that happens, I put a lot of pressure on myself.
When I draw a place that I've never been to and don't know why I am so curious, I see the memories become clearer.
< Memory, attic and I > is my lyrical self.
Memories do not remains in the past.
They’re for my 'life' and 'present'.
