백윤조 작가 (b. 1980) 작업의 과감한 색채와 심플함 그리고 율동감의 출발점은 바로 걷는 행위다. 개인적으로 힘들었던 시절 ‘걷기’라는 일상적이고, 단순하고, 반복적인 행위를 통해 작가의 몸과 마음이 치유된 경험이 곧 작업으로 이어졌다. 반복적이고 목적 없는 ‘걷기’는 작가의 자유로운 두들링(낙서화) 드로잉과 닮아 있다. 오래 걷다 보면 자연스레 리듬에 몸이 맡겨지는 것처럼 낙서화 드로잉 작업을 통해 일상 속 익숙하게 생각했던 형상들이 순간적으로 발현된다. 영감이 떠오르면 과감하고 빠르게 그리기 시작하는데 종이, 캔버스, 아이패드, 나무판 혹은 냅킨까지 장소와 재료를 가리지 않는다. 그녀의 드로잉에서 반복적으로 나타나는 형상들은 페인팅 작업인 두들Doodle과 워크Walk시리즈를 통해 엘로우, 블루, 오렌지의 경쾌하고 과감한 색채로 재탄생 된다. 백윤조의 Walk 시리즈 속 걷고 있는 사람들 옆에는 작고 소소한 존재들이 함께한다. 고양이나 개를 연상시키는 생명체 혹 어린 시절 소중했던 인형을 누군가 가져가는 장면들을 통해 우리가 살면서 간과하기 쉬운 ‘작은 것’들에 대한 ‘따뜻함’과 ‘배려’ 그리고 시간이 지남에 따라 잃어버리기 쉬운 ‘순수성’을 역설적으로 환기시킨다. 갤러리조은의 4월 25일부터 5월 20일까지 개최되는 Blah Blah 전에서는 새롭게 등장하는 생명체 중 파랑새가 있다. 백윤조의 Stroll(산책)이라는 작품에서 행복을 의미하는 파랑새들이 할아버지의 몸에 모여든다. 현실을 부정하고 막연한 이상을 꿈꾸는 현세대의 ‘파랑새 증후군’에 대해, 작가는 ‘소중한 건 먼 곳이 아니라 우리네 일상 가까운 데 있다’고 말하는 듯하다. 동덕여대 미대 졸업 후 작가는 연이은 개인전과 국내외 아트페어를 통해 활발한 전시를 이어오며 국내 미술계에서 뜨거운 주목을 받고 있다. Blah Blah전에서 소형 연필 드로잉부터 대형 캔버스 작품까지 작가의 작품 세계를 망라한 다양한 시리즈를 선별적으로 선보이며 내년 갤러리조은에서 열릴 작가의 개인전을 예고한다. 해학과 유머가 넘치는 두 작가의 최신작 30여 점을 통해 소소하지만, 찬란한 일상풍경이 펼쳐질 예정이다. The starting point of Paek's work, characterized by bold colors, simplicity, and rhythm, is the act of walking. The artist's daily experience during the simple and repetitive act of walking heals her body and mind in difficult times and soon leads to her work. Repetitive and aimless walking resembles the artist's free doodling. As if the body is naturally subject to the rhythm when walking for a long time, the shapes familiar to her daily are immediately expressed in her graffiti drawings. She starts drawing boldly and quickly when inspiration comes to mind, regardless of the place and material, including paper, canvas, iPad, wooden boards, or napkins. The repetitive figures in her drawings are depicted on canvas using bright and bold colors, such as yellow, blue, and orange. This exhibition features her Doodle and Walk series. In her Walk series, small and tiny creatures stand next to walking people. The scenes where someone takes a doll that was dear to us as a child, or a creature that reminds us of a cat or a dog, evoke "warmth" and "consideration" for the "little things" that are easy to overlook in our lives, and "purity" that is easily lost with time. Among the new creatures in this exhibition is the bluebird. In her work Walk, bluebirds, representing happiness, gather on the body of a grandfather. Alluding to the "bluebird syndrome" of today's generation, which denies reality and vague ideals, the artist seems to say, "The valuable is not far away, but close to our daily lives." After graduating from Dongduk Women's College of Art, the artist has attracted great attention in the art world by continuing to actively participate in solo exhibitions and art fairs at home and abroad. The exhibition features a variety of series, ranging from small pencil drawings to large-scale canvas works, and heralds the artist's solo exhibition, to be held next year at Gallery Joeun.
