작가 김승연은 서울을 기반으로 활동하며, 책을 매개로 작업을 확장해 나가고 있다.
작업의 모티브는 자신의 반려견에서 시작되지만, 단순한 대상의 재현을 넘어 책과 캔버스를 오가며 서로를 보완하고 확장하는 방식으로, 작가만의 고유한 색을 점차 밀도 있게 구축해 나간다. 이러한 작업은 작가 고유의 서사를 바탕으로 단순한 귀여움에 머무르지 않고, 보다 다층적인 정서의 레이어를 형성한다. 건식 재료를 기반으로 여러 층을 천천히 쌓아 올리는 방식 또한 화면 위에 시간의 밀도를 축적하며, 한 번의 시선으로 완결되지 않는 감각을 만들어낸다. 이는 관람자가 시간을 두고 서서히 그림에 스며들도록 유도하는 작가의 태도를 드러낸다.
특히 부드럽고 포근한 ‘플러피’한 질감을 구현하기 위해 축적된 시간과 과정은 화면 곳곳에 흔적처럼 남아 있으며, 이는 한 장의 그림 안에 눌러 담긴 애정의 밀도를 고스란히 드러낸다.

Artist’s Note
Artist Kim Seungyoun is based in Seoul and continues to expand her practice through the medium of books.
While the motif of her work begins with her companion dog, her practice moves beyond the simple depiction of a subject. Instead, she moves fluidly between books and canvas, allowing each medium to complement and expand the other, gradually building a distinct visual language of her own with increasing density and depth. Rooted in the artist’s personal narrative, these works do not remain at the level of mere charm or cuteness, but rather form multilayered emotional strata. Her method of slowly building up layers with dry materials also accumulates a density of time on the surface, creating a sensibility that cannot be fully grasped in a single glance. This reveals the artist’s attitude of inviting the viewer to take time and slowly immerse themselves in the painting.
In particular, the time and process invested in achieving a soft, warm, “fluffy” texture remain throughout the surface like traces, vividly conveying the density of affection pressed into each individual painting.
