Beyond defense of innocence and its destruction
We are not able to know about the universe, no matter how much we try. Neither natural science nor life philosophy can give the clue. Everything is nothing but the world of frame. Nevertheless, there must be a definite perspective approaching the universe. From a broader view, this can be fractals or bubbles. Looking at it smaller, it can end up being “nothingness” beyond molecules or particles. Park Jong-kyu deeply concerned on the movement of perspectives of the self and the process, and this made him pay attention to the features of computers. The essence of a computer work consists in the fact that it is not the product created by the self. It is a computing structure based on a binary system created by 0 and 1. This simple arrangement is more rapid and precise than human calculation does. When the computing capacity outpaces humans, humans transform into nothing but a tool of the computer. Long time ago, Park Jong-kyu predicted the possible fall of human existence as a means to save and operate computers. Out of the arrangement of 0 and 1 with the orderliness that is even beautiful, this becomes a phenomenon. The computer provides us with a beautiful screen, harmonious sounds, mathematical answers and accurate prediction results. However, not all calculations and programs based on 0 and 1 can be perfect. The more the computer carries out calculation, the higher the entropy will be. With increased entropy, the computer will be tired making a noise. However, if we enlarge this uncomfortable phenomenon called “noise,” this manifests an orderly aspect as well. The noise is rearranged as digital virtuality, in other words, pixel images, and the computer printer transform the pixel images into the substance called “contact papers.” After tearing off the lines and dots arranged by the computer printer, the acrylic paint is carefully applied. This is considered the product of his strong will to surpass domains of both aesthetic innocence and innovation trying to remove the veil of innocence.

The work of Park Jong-kyu balanced between aesthetic innocence and innovation toward the world is a product of a groundbreaking project. He transforms the conventional concept of “the self” into the term “movement” or “transfer.” Without damaging innocence of modernism, he infuses new energy into the territory. While thoroughly keeping the thesis (thèse) of conditioned existence of reasoning (Seinsverbundenheit), his work does not fail to appease the hunger of iconoclasts. This is the very greatness of his universe.
